Pam Sugden is a horse enthusiast with a varied background in the horse world that spans more than 50 years. Currently she is a licensed Western coach with Equine Canada and a Master Instructor in both English and Western disciplines with Certified Horsemanship Association. A student of notable horsemen including Col Mike Gutowski, Tom Gayford and Craig Cameron, her varied background includes teaching riders of all levels and disciplines as well as training many horses to become good safe mounts for their riders. She has owned, ridden and shown horses and ponies on several continents in disciplines which have included foxhunting, low level eventing, team penning, sorting, western pleasure, western riding, halter, hunt seat equitation, trail, as well as showing hunters, jumpers, hack horses and even riding sidesaddle in the hunt field and at the Royal Winter Fair.
An advocate of cross training for horses and riders, Pam is the founder of MXCA - Maritime Xtreme Cowboy Association. Most recently a student of Craig Cameron, founder of the Extreme Cowboy Association, Pam is keen to bring this fun sport to the Maritimes. An avid horseperson, she is also working hard to ensure that local horses and riders have opportunities to grow through the establishment of workshops, clinics and schooling shows – both English and Western. She specializes in encouraging riders at all levels with a focus on their ability to become happy, safe, confident all-round riders through developing essential partnership skills with their horses. Pam owns and operates Southden Farm (www.southdenfarm.com), just north of Sussex, which has indoor and outdoor riding facilities, trails, an Xtreme Cowboy course, a full set of show jumps and some cross-country training fences.
